Q&A

What is systems approach?
A systemS thinker thinks about the whole world as the sets of nested inside each other and interacting at each level "matryoshkas" (russian dolls) - and a lot of dolls in each. The properties of these nested dolls at each nesting level do not match the properties of the doll in which they are nested. And each level of such a "world doll" (the top matryoshka - the universe, the bottom matryoshka - some quantum superstrings, but most interesting occurs on a small number of medium levels) is served by its community that has figured out how this particular level of matryoshka is arranged. Now if you have such "matryoshka" view of the world, and you are still accustomed to first look at matryoshka which is located in someone else's hands and which is embedded in the doll located in your hands, and only after that you would open your doll-in-hand - then you are a systems thinker. The rest is small details.
What systems approach is needed for?
To effectively cope with the complexity. Complex tasks become simple, impossible - complex. Yes, it is necessary to get involved in the long history of fundamental education. But then you can build airplanes, instead of making tents out of sticks.
What I am going to do better once I master systems approach?
Problems of different scale complexity, from the fundamental ones:
1. Select an object from the background - control attention;
2. To see clear the connection between all levels of generalization and the real world;
3. To realize and be able to use the mechanisms of reasoning, to keep two or more focuses of attention (to understand about people and roles);
4. Update your methods of reasoning as they accumulate in the baggage of mankind knowledge.

Out of the more applied ones:
1. Keep the whole project compactly in mind, not to lose important details (this the standard explanation for students: what they will get as a result of the course);
2. Work at the same speed with more complex projects, and work more quickly with projects of the same complexity due to faster thinking;
3. To negotiate with very different people, an excellent basis for productive communication;
4. To agree with engineers and managers, because it underlies both systems engineering and systems management.

And here is what the students themselves say in the survey of 2018:
1. It is better to do self-diagnostics and plan your professional and personal development;
2. Choose where to begin to act in situations of high uncertainty;
3. Understand how to better organize activities in order to obtain results with a high degree of probability;
4. Expand complex tasks into simple ones in real time;
5. To look at your work and the work of others not from the point of view "How I would do it", but "How to do everything right together".
What is needed to master systems approach?
The habit of mastering thoughtfully complex "tools/mechanisms": it is often inculcated in several years of education in technical fields, sometimes it can be formed in a different way. Other than that, it takes time for independent work and a real problem in your project / external activity, as a good example for training. The rest depends on the desire!
When systems approach is NOT needed?
When solving problems not related to joint activities. We also do not recommend immediately trying to use a systems approach for, for example, the idea of reorganizing society.
Not ready yet to enroll in our course? Well we created something very useful and absolutely free for you: project analysis check-list
Get the checklist and start applying it right now!
Do you want to make sure that your project is on the right track? Check-lists for project analysis - a convenient and effective way to diagnose the project at any stage.
Using check-lists, you can:
  • check whether all hypotheses, perspectives and risks are taken into account at the planning stage;
  • Structure available information on the project;
  • get feedback from the team;
  • establish a way forward;
  • be sure that there are no "blank spots" - the check-lists cover all possible aspects of project management.
The checklist is a document that helps to check ourselves. For example, a list of actions to be taken, or items that you need not to overlook taking with you. Check-lists are used in aviation, medicine, construction - places where errors are unacceptable. If you are responsible for project management, we suggest that you use checklists - a truly reliable method of control.

Deputy General Director for design and survey works of OAO "Management of Experimental Development of Microdistricts"

I were at two seminars: "System Management and Technology Entrepreneurship" and "How to manage life cycle of the system: the integration of managerial and engineering approaches." After your seminars I realized that everything I do every day can be put on an excellent scientific basis and no need to reinvent the bicycle every time))))
It took me 10 years to realize who my stakeholders are!) The first 5 years I thought it was the customer, government or investor; for the next 5 years I realized that the Investor has clients and tenants (for example, "anchor"); and 10 years later I realized – in the list of my stakeholders should be included the final consumer who came to the store for shopping (for example, a portrait of the average client).

Thank you very much! And I wish you further success in the development of System Engineering.
Ph.D., teacher of the highest qualification category of computer science and robotics, Honored Worker of the General Education of the Russian Federation, Laureate of the Moscow Prize for the great contribution to the organization of research in the field of robotics and mechatronics, coach of the Russian school students in robotics, author of the textbooks and books for school students in robotics
Lydia Beliovskaya
I visited the seminar "What is known about the future?", taught by A.I. Levenchuk.

As a teacher of computer science and robotics I know many interesting and useful things, which are not to be taught in modern school, nobody teaches this kind of things to the students. But what out of all existing innovations will be in demand in the future, and what will not? What technologies should we focus our attention on most for now? These questions are so difficult to give clear answer to for the regular teacher.

When visited the course, I felt that I have received a winning ticket. Usually the parents of our students say that when their children participate in a very interesting course taught by professional teacher.

The importance and value of the learning material was felt immediately. The students worked with the highest level of attention (students: representatives of advanced business). This course is full of great information content, mainly based on the materials of foreign science. The author has been actively working with material of foreign literature for many years. This is a very important experience.

I am very grateful to the people who organized this seminar for the opportunity to get acquainted with such important and in-demand information relevant to my field of work. This stunning information makes you think, re-arrange interests. Do not resist: if pivot, - do a turn!

I took a course, I would like to give my impressions shortly.
First. Very well structured extensive modern material, which gives a full introduction to the subject.
The second. High professionalism and excellent teaching skills of the leader Ts. V. Tserenov.
Third. The knowledge and skills you get really help at your work, you better understand the matter of the problems that you have to deal with.
Fourth. You immediately understand the reason in continuing the training and in joint discussions. I read with the great interest the materials of the group in the FB, the website, etc.

I joined the 9th group of the course "System Management and Strategy". As I work far from the Russian Federation, I took part in seminars and workshops remotely. And, despite the fact that I would attend all these events internally with much greater pleasure I am quite satisfied with organization and results.
I am glad that the instrument for all this was also "presented" to us - a systemat approach. It allows, among other things, effectively deal with complex situations and projects, compactly describe them and act productively.
In any case, the first positive results are already obvious. Everything else depends on the hours of practice. I am very happy to be able to participate in the events and receive current materials of the School's activities.
Thanks to Anatoly, Tseren and all the active participants of the School community for their useful and of course fruitful activity! See you at new courses, seminars and conferences!

First, let me share my opinion a little about expectations, general impressions, a bit of content and about the form. I expected from the course something like stories about the techniques of modeling - how and in what logic one should be able, where to read, how to make descriptions, read and understand the texts.
In terms of content, everything turned out to be much more interesting and practical - a set of convenient models, such as a framework, used to explain the model. And what is really important, there were taught different models for different people, and for myself. The impression I had is that this is very cool.
I really liked the format: lesson once a week -awesome, between classes there is a time to read something and think about it. There is a set of homework you can do, but it was more interesting and convenient for me not to do it. At the end I thought that maybe I should have done it after all.

YAY! And here it is - my first certificate Cursers and MIPT "System Thinking".
I was pleased to solve the problem of sipuculary, hapless engineer Petya and turbocharger rotors. I thank Anatoly Igorevich for his creativity, lightness, sense of humor and generosity - this allowed me to dive in the subject with the interest.
And now the question is: Why director of a kindergarten needs this course? Next question is: why all other leaders need it? It is perfect for self-diagnosis, ordering, harmonization of processes. And it is timely for those who work with the individualization of educational processes.

Feedback on the course "System Leadership"
I participated in this event in on-line format, which, on the one hand, took away the opportunity to "discuss on breaks," but that was the only down side of this format. I was left happy with the course, despite the high expectations and training (from my side). I give very high score for the learning material and it's delivery (especially for Russian-language space-time).
Warning! 75% of fans of books about leadership like Richard Branson or Adizes (yes, they are different) will be shocked by the consideration of the word "leadership" in this course, which is good, very good.
Briefly:
- Connection between engineering of the enterprise and leadership (of course - the system) was discussed, with examples, (zakusckoy??) and "to think";
- the topic of DEMO (not the main one) is discussed at a sufficient level to provoke interest and self-interest;
-practical techniques and explanations "why?" were discussed and were pleasing;
- a lot about "Who needs it? Why? .. When? .. ", as they say, the correct statement of the problem is already half of the solution. Present in this courset;
- Tulgan! There's Tulgan! It's wonderful, how rarely we can see it.
To Organizers and Alexander Turhanov personally - a tremendous respect!

Good afternoon! Visited your seminar "How to manage the life cycle of the system: the integration of managerial and engineering approaches." There is a lot of useful theory that we will now apply to optimize business processes in our company. I liked the unique system approach to which the seminar was devoted. This method allows us to reconsider our methods of building work with the team and projects. Next time I would like to hear more practical examples and cases from different areas. Thank you!

Have you asked about success? I have a lot of success. For example, there is a short list:
a. We launched a continuous cycle of updating the development strategy. So my team and I strategize with an endless protocol, for which we chose onenote. It hurts that we did not start doing that five years ago.
b. I heard the phrase from Anatoly Levenchuk and it was: "new practices will lead to the fact that a number of old members of the team will have to leave, but new ones will come": I said goodbye to two of my employees (each of them worked with us for ten years), there is one more waiting the turn, and can not gurantee that he is the last one to leave the team.
c. We are willing to take a couple of "expensive" projects this summer, simply because their architectural failures became clear.
d. Arch crawls on different people in the team, somewhere quietly, somewhere very brightly. I, myself, could not express anything using this architectural language for a month, and then something clicked, and now I'm wondering how it was possible to live before knowing all of that.
I can continue the list of individual short pleasant cases, but more importantly is the base you gave me, of course - the view "through systems" greatly improves life without reservations.
